Overview

Retail / E-commerce | Outdoor Apparel & Gear | 2010

Gelert is a British outdoor clothing and camping brand, named after the legendary hound of Prince Llywelyn the Great. I worked with the company to build an online product catalogue that brought their extensive inventory of gear and apparel to a wider online audience.

The focus was on usability, speed, and helping users navigate a large and varied product set—without overwhelming them.

Project Highlights:

  • Faceted Filtering for Product Discovery
Built a robust filtering system that allowed users to narrow down product results by multiple attributes (e.g., size, category, price, color), improving discoverability and user experience.

  • Keyword Search Integration
Implemented a keyword search across all products to help customers quickly find what they needed—vital for an inventory with hundreds of SKUs.

  • ExpressionEngine E-commerce Setup
Used ExpressionEngine CMS to manage the product catalogue, including imagery, descriptions, tags, and variant data.

  • Mobile-Friendly, Lightweight UI
Leveraged HTML5, CSS3, and jQuery to create a responsive front-end experience—well ahead of mobile e-commerce trends at the time.

Tech Stack:

  • CMS: ExpressionEngine
  • Frontend: HTML5, CSS3, jQuery

This early e-commerce project demonstrated how solid UX and clean filtering logic could transform a traditional retail brand into a more agile, customer friendly online experience.
